Graft probe lands big fish in Jakarta

JAKARTA - The chairman of Indonesia's ruling party resigned on Saturday after the anti-graft body named him a suspect in a multi-million-dollar corruption case.

"I quit as the chairman of the Democratic Party," Anas Urbaningrum said at a news conference.

Urbaningrum, 43, was named a suspect on Friday for allegedly receiving "gifts or a promise of gifts" in a graft case linked to the construction of the Hambalang sports centre project near Jakarta, worth around 1.17 trillion rupiah (3.6 billion baht).

"His resignation was widely expected as all Democratic Party officials had recently signed an "integrity pact" to give up their posts if named as graft suspects."

I don't see any Thai political party making such promises here... Hell they don't even go if they are convicted, never mind named.

    "Integrity? Arai na?"

Geez, D#2. Quit wavin yer beloved Red Flag. Your PT government is the laughing stock of the entire intelligent, democratic, free thinking world. If it were not for corruption PT could not exist! How else do you justify the leadership in PT? If you can not get a grip on reality go plant some rice!

Thai politicians should follow the said example not only from this but from all over the world when ministers stepped down if anything goes wrong which hurt the country's image or made sufferings to the people in all aspects...especially the true leaders show that they are responsible even if their subordinates did something wrong. But maybe corruption here in Thailand is just a norm and not a crime...

The Thai parliament will be "almost" empty if Thai MP's sign such integrity pact and gave up their post.

"..Democratic Party.. graft case ..Hambalang sports centre project near Jakarta.."

What a mirror image of Thai politics!

Thailand's very own Democrat Party governor Sukumband also built a Futsal Arena near Bangkok, that was found unusable by FIFA.

The "White Elephant of Nongchok" is a symbol of Sukhumband's failure as governor, besides many others. Maybe a similar graft investigation would help, just like it did in Indonesia.
