Fake 'student' thieves busted

Police in Samut Prakan have arrested a couple who pretended to be university students and stole property from more than 100 students in many schools.

Bang Phli police arrested Sujitra Jittakram, 22, and Komkrit Khunviset, 42 at their house in Thanya Buri district of Pathum Thani.

Officers seized a pickup truck, 43 buttons for uniforms of many universities, and a university student uniform.

This story is fairly usual. There's theft on campuses all the time by bogus students as there is little security. The university student scam has many forms in Thailand and has been used in a variety of ways for years.

There used to be (and probably still are) so-called uni girls prowling Khao San Road and other tourist haunts soliciting Farang who would be all too eager to have "fun" with an authentic Thai uni girl.

I have been approached in such a way a few times. When I've questioned these "students" about their university, what courses they're studying or even the location of their campus, their stories quickly fall apart.

When I read the headline “Fake 'student' thieves busted” I thought about groups of students which I see from time to time outside the MRT or similar places who ask for donations. Does anybody know if it is known that fake students do something similar?
I like to help students and sometimes I donate some money but I don’t want to support people who just use the student uniforms to collect money for themselves.
    Any comment?

The money they earned from stealing is big and is more than enough to pay or post bail and they are free again to continue on their illegal activities. That's how justice work in Thailand...
