Ikea meatballs 'contain horsemeat'

STOCKHOLM - The producer of Ikea meatballs withdrawn from shelves in Thailand and two dozen other countries has found horsemeat in its products, the national food agency SLA said Wednesday.

The Swedish national food agency says it has found horsemeat in meatballs labelled as beef-and-pork products, and sold at the Bang Na Mega Mall.

The agency was informed by Swedish company Dafgaard that its own tests had "confirmed the presence of equine DNA", a spokeswoman for the agency said.

    .

Generally, horsemeat should be more expensive than cow meat, at least in Thailand. But in western world this may be contrary.

In the old days, one famous burger joint was thought to have wild mustang meat in their beef patty. It took a while before advertisement was used to bring back the clients.

IKEA did it quick, they must be applauded.

Bangkokians enjoy&consider western food are for upper class. I rememberd growing up with open market, this was in Bangkok, that would have hung the whole pig and cow on the hook so consumers would be able to pick the parts.Horse meat, dog meat are consumed in many countries. the points are foods need to be labelled as such.Careful! with meat balls you get in your noodle bowls you don't know what in it either. There were ground beef in The US that was made not purely from meat but from some parts of the cows or bulls to make it tender. It was so scandalios.so it now stops production. It could be in sausages too.MSG might be more harmful.
