The small regency of Mukomuko in southwest Sumatra plans to offer an incentive for young newlyweds to delay having children as part of its family planning programme - a payment of one million rupiah (about US$100).
“This program might also attract some to participate in the vasectomy program,” said Farida Ariani, the head of the Mukomuko Family Planning and Women’s Empowerment Agency, the Jakarta Post reported.
Men who agree to have a vasectomy under another existing birth control program would also be also entiled to a million rupiah payout.
