New Taliban target: ringtones

PESHAWAR - Pakistani Taliban have threatened to bomb a mobile phone market for the "shameless" selling of video clips, ringtones and accessories, officials said on Saturday.

Sixty shopkeepers in this northwestern city received letters ordering them to burn the offending stock, including memory cards and speakers for MP3 players, and stick to selling only mobile phones and essential accessories.

DVD and CD shops have in the past been bombed by militants who deemed the businesses "un-Islamic".

Bonzo: An Islamic phone is one that goes boom, without a ringtone.

So according to these Einsteins selling video clips, ringtones and accessories is shameless business, but bombing and murdering people indiscriminately is what ...... honourable?

Phone accessories bad … phones/batteries/chargers good. Because you can’t detonate of an IED with speakers for an MP3 player (though I’m sure they would if they could). And what exactly is an ‘Islamic’ phone anyway?

They really do just make it up as they go along, don’t they? But I love the idea that anybody could be ‘compelled’ commit arson or murder by their victim: “I had no choice; he was brandishing a memory stick, Officer”. That will stand up in (kangaroo) court.
