House sets aside B32m for AEC trips

The House of Representatives has set aside 32 million baht to organise trips to other Asean countries for members of the press and parliamentary staff.

The trips would help familiarise them with the Asean Economic Community, to be launched in December 2015, Deputy House Speaker Charoen Chankomol said.

Participants will be divided into four groups. Each group will visit the nine other Asean countries of Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Indonesia, Myanmar and Brunei.

Press being paid to report on what the government is doing? One would hope the the press corp would not fall for this and keep their integrity.

Total waste of money. If current officials are not familiar with ASEAN already, they have no business representing the people. What a laugh it will be, when NON-English speaking Thailand joins ASEAN. But instead of investing in education, waste money on frivolous field trips. Thai people will become the laughing stock of ASEAN, once the rest of the countries realize how backwards Thailand is in the international language and education.

The journalists are expected to act as PR people for the government in return for the free trip.
