Tarit refuses to attend House hearing

A House committee has threatened to force Department of Special Investigation chief Tarit Pengdith to testify, after the DSI chief failed for a second time Wednesday to appear at a hearing on the "men in black" of the 2010 political violence.

The panel agreed to summon Mr Tarit again on March 13. If he fails to show for a third time, the committee could take legal action to try to force him to testify.

“Mr Tarit’s reason [for not appearing] is not convincing," said Watchara Petchtong, deputy chairman of the House committee on politics, communication and public participation. "He claimed he was occupied with a meeting with delegates from the New Zealand Police.”

Firstly that was an appalingly transparent attempt to distract from Tarit's actions. Such tactics might work with people who didn't finish high school but not here.

Secondly, the DSI prosecuted 295 Red Shirts? Why is that showing bias? UDD DID burn down buildings in the capital city, loot shops, use grenades and war weapons, storm a hospital and a thousand other crimes...

Your post makes no sense (as usual). Prosecuting criminals is correct. Persecuting Abhisit and Suthep on Thaksin's behalf is illegal and immoral.

bikeme 7 - "The one sided 'justice' practiced currently by the DSI is beyond laughable."

    Agreed.

"The DSI had taken legal action against hardcore red-shirt protesters. It has filed 213 legal cases against red shirts, including 64 cases of terrorism and sabotage and 62 cases of arson, while 295 people on the UDD side have been arrested and prosecuted." - BangkokPost, 7/12/2012

Discussion 5 brilliant : facts_only's comment is inferring that dem MP Watchara's comment made to the media had once been misleading and later proved to be false. Some readers might get upset after reading this. But this is the fact.

I'm sure the NZ police delegation would be less than pleased at being used as an excuse by this ... person ...

It is interesting that he thinks folks should appear before him to answer his trumped up charges, but can't be bothered to respond to calls for his own testimony. The one sided "justice" practiced currently by the DSI is beyond laughable.

"...... (CRES), which handled security operations during the 2010 riots,..."

Two very subtle misleading notions contained within the above statement, seeking to contextualize historical events:

#1- What is referenced as 'security operations' were in fact an attack instigated by those who had roots in the 2006 coup, against those who objected.
#2 - The 2010 riots were in fact, a reaction by those anti-coup elements to this attack.

Where were these vaunted "security Operations" following the 2006 coup?

What were 'security operations' for some, were 'Political attacks' to others.

Just depending which side of the political divide

This is nothing but laughable. Once again the red herring, disingenuous, change the subject method of either attacking Democrats or defending PTP and their la

This surreal character gets more absurd by the minute. He's puzzled enough why few take his own kangaroo court seriously, yet when called to testify (to a Parliamentary committee no less) he tries to worm out of it. At least Abhisit and Suthep had the courage to show up for his undignified questioning. Honestly where do they find some of these senior officials, their sense of ethics is appalling.

Tarit is trying to protect his Boss. I think that his Boss will have to dump him soon. Then nobody will want to have anything to do with him. His Karma has caught up with him at last.
