Border cop's wife slain in Pattani

The wife of a border patrol policeman was shot dead in Pattani's Mayo district while returning home from a market on Sunday morning.

Pol Col Kong-ath Suwankham, the Mayo police chief, said the incident took place at about 11am.

While Nipa Promphet, 52, was returning on a motorcycle to her home in tambon Talokapo in Yaring district she was followed by a group of men in a car on Narathiwat-Pattani road. One of the men shot her in the head with a pistol. When she fell to the ground, the man fired another shot into her body, killing her on the spot, before fleeing.

Looks like Yingluck's soft Phue Thai approach in the South will have to be revised and the hard line stance from the Democrats being kept. A government which is serious with itself never negotiate with insurgents... it's a sign of weakness and a dangerous acknowledgment that the terrorists are "a legal counterpart to negotiate with"... Big brother from Dubai has skyped this new approach in his sister's ears!

Insurgents killing at will. The Army and police have no solution. These are insurgents only. One really has to question Thailand's readiness in the event of war with a neighboring country. After many, many years, the insurgents cannot be brought under control despite ridiculously huge amounts of military budget being spent in the south.
