Cambodian police beat protesters

PHNOM PENH - Cambodian police have beaten demonstrators who were marching toward the prime minister's house to protest being evicted from their homes.

Cambodian security officers carry a resident from Boeung Kak lakeside during a protest in Phnom Penh on Wednesday. The residents from the squatter areas in Boeung Kak lakeside gathered to protest and are calling for Cambodian authorities to find a solution solving their housing dispute with development company Shukaku Inc and that their members are released from prison. The violent confrontation is a reminder that land grabbing remains a contentious issue in this election year.
