Ban on Suu Kyi 'under review'

YANGON - Myanmar's parliament has agreed to review the country's 2008 constitution, state media said Saturday, in a tentative step towards amending a document that bars opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi from the presidency.

Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi tours the area of a Chinese-backed copper mine project, in Monywa northern Myanmar on March 14, 2013.

The report did not detail the elements set for review in the document, which was adopted following a controversial referendum held in the days after a cyclone killed tens of thousands of people and left swathes of the country in chaos.

#4: Come on, this is ridiculous. The former military government crafted the current constitution and decided what's in it - period. That is a fact you cannot possibly argue against, no matter what Aung San did or didn't do before he was killed.

The people who wrote this don't know the whole stuff either, they just copy, past and add a bit. By the way, the military didn't write much, they just took the old stuff and added also a bit, her father did this so don't blame the other.

#1: But still, it was the military junta that crafted the current constitution, right? After all, it came into force 60 years after the death of Aung San and they chose to include this ban.

What bothers me more about this story is that the headline implies that the actual ban is "under review", while further down we get to learn that "The report did not say if the foreign citizen clause or the military's allocation of seats would be up for review by the panel."

I wonder what the original AFP headline was.

Hi, you shouldnt write wrong stuff, this > Crafted by the military junta, the constitution blocks anyone whose spouses or children are overseas citizens from running for leadership of the country. > is wrong! It was the father of Mrs. Suu Kyi who made this into law and not the military.
