New charter amendments proposed

About 60 senators have proposed amendments to some sections of the 2007 constitution, Pheu Thai MP Udomdej Rattanasathien said on Monday.

Mr Udomdej said the proposal was submitted by 50-60 senators led by Direk Thuengfang of Nonthaburi to the government coalition parties' committee for the study of charter amendments.

The senators wanted Sections 68 and 237, which concern dissolution of a political party found guilty of electoral fraud, to be amended to exclude party executive members not involved in the offence from being banned from political office.

Section 50 should be expanded to cover all MPs and the PM. All of them should be term limited to two terms maximum.

Sections 68/237 if one person is guilty the party shouldn't be dissolved, but if multiple people are guilty the party should be disbanded and all executives banned (the actual violators should be banned for life).

Why is Parliamentary Privilege never brought up for amendment or disposal?

Because they all regard themselves above the law.

Thailand's parliament has got the most corrupted politicians known in modern times. Thailand is never to move on if this trend were to stay.

Any party leadership should be held responsible for the actions of their members. In a private company the boss is also responsible, and might go to jail, if one of his employees tells lies to get contracts or is bribing people.
If the boss does not know what his subordinates do then it is his job to find out. And if a subordinate is doing something wrong then he should be removed from the organization.
How many vote buying and lying MPs and want-to-be-MPs did the Thai parties expel from their parties?
Throw the bad guys out until there are only good guys left. It’s not so difficult.

Those two seem fair to me, the opposition should sign up to them to show some sincerity and rebuff accusations that they are 100% spoilers. But while you're about it, some harsher penalties for electoral fraud. How about this suggestion: If someone is red carded, he/she is disqualified and the next most popular candidate wins, no bi-election. Also, no immediate relative of the disqualified, banned party member can stand for that constituency for 5 years. No weakening of the system without strengthening it elsewhere.

oh really, so the deal is that foot soldiers can be sacrificed while the instigators of any electoral mischief get away with their scheming.

I think the clauses must be about right as MP's are constantly trying to amend them. Let them squeal.

The only thing wrong with the constitution is that PT keeps trying to change it to pardon fugitives and criminals .Is that good government does .No it isn't .

No mention of censure/resignation for senators who shoot the secretaries though.
