North MPs support Yaowapa

Pheu Thai MPs from the North have agreed to support Yaowapa Wongsawat as the party's candidate in the April by-election in Chiang Mai's constituency 3, Laddawal Wongsri-wong said on Tuesday.

The by-election, set for April 21, was necessitated by the resignation of Pheu Thai MP Kasem Nimmonrat.

Ms Laddawal, a former executive of the dissolved Thai Rak Thai party and founder of the Voice of Women group, said the party MPs held a meeting today to discuss who should be the candidate.

They overwhelmingly agreed that Ms Yaowapa, a younger sister of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra and wife of former prime minister Somchai Wongsawat, should be the party's choice.

The party, however, had not decided on this matter.

Ms Laddawal said that on April 2, the first day of candidacy registration, a large number of northern MPs and members of the Voice of Women, would turned up to show support for Ms Yaowapa.

"I personally consider Khun Yaowapa a person with strong leadership ability who can help Pheu Thai work well with other political parties and boost the morale of northern MPs," she said.

It must be tough being a Shinawatra these days, even with political clout and experience and local populairty you cant even run for parliament without everyone speculating and rubbishing you for being part of a meglomaniac political dynasty. Wonder why that is?

When faced with a choice between greed and money, or doing the right thing for the nation and the people, the MP's chose greed and money every single time.

I guess soon she will give an interview and repeat one of Thaksin’s typical statements like: I want to retire from politics but people asked me to help them. I only do it for the people, believe me.
