Chalerm cancels South for loan debate

Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung "postponed" his first trip ever to the deep South, saying he was needed in Bangkok to help the government push through its bill to borrow two trillion baht for infrastructure projects.

In order to call off the planned to the South, Mr Chalerm said Tuesday he also phoned to cancel a planned meeting on March 28 at Langkawi with former Malaysian prime minister Mahathir Mohamad. No new date was set for either the Thailand or Malaysia legs of the postponed trip, but the deputy prime minister said it would be "soon".

Mr Chalerm never has made a trip to the three restive provinces which make up the deep South.

    @djay #14: Write the book now - don’t wait.
    I am almost 20 years in the Land of Smiles and finally I know why many Thais are smiling all the time.
    After a decade or two you have two choices: Go insane when you realize how much rubbish is going on here. Or look at it and smile and just think: This is Thailand – TiT. :)

    You know you've been in Thailand a while when your reaction to this is "okay, normal. What I expected". Instead of trying to debate the merits of one or the other. Maybe I will write a book - "Getting Used to Thailand".

    I think we should be gracious when Thaksin’s sister Yaowapa will be on standby to replace Yingluck.
    If she is not ready then the alternative could be Chalerm as Prime Minister. And I think he the absolute worst case scenario.
    Even Thaksin is better than him – and that means a lot.

    "If you cannot convince them, dazzle them" —as any seasoned huckster will tell you. Thus, Mr. Chalerm is requisitioned to do the dazzling.

    Didn't he say he will go to the south after the Bangkok elections?
    So he must be back already. Why you people complain about him?

    Let me break a lance for K Chalerm: he had to make his shirt wet in Parliament (they raised the A/C temp. from 18C to 19) to save the 2.2Trillion blank check, as the fashionista PM had to have planetar security talks elsewhere, period. And he didn't choose between making his shirt wet there, or, soiling his underwear in the deep South, he was ordered to stay put in Bkk, by a lovely lady, nah!

    Since the PTP control the majority in Parliament, why do they need Chalerm to defend their bill? Could it be, that there is some dissent in the PTP coalition ranks? Could some politicians actually be thinking independently?
