COLOMBO - A group of Buddhists attacked a Muslim-run clothing shop in the suburbs of Colombo, police said on Friday, prompting heightened security in and around the Sri Lankan capital.
The incident comes after a hardline Buddhist activist group this week carried out raids against establishments it felt were showing disrespect to Buddhist symbols.
Hundreds of Buddhists threw stones at the clothing store in Pepiliyana, 12 kilometres south of the capital, while others dragged the shop's wares out into the road, in an attack during the night that lasted half an hour, witnesses said.
