Chadchat: Free rides are over

Free rides on buses and trains might not last much longer.
Transport Minister Chadchat Suttipunt said Tuesday his ministry is studying the feasability of issuing discounted tickets on trains and public buses for low-income commuters, instead of providing fully free transportation.
The ticket scheme under study would replace the current policy, begun in 2008 at a time of faltering economy, of free bus rides in Greater Bangkok by the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) and free third-class train rides by the State Railway of Thailand (SRT).
