A satellite image taken by the Geo-Informatics and Space Development Agency (GISTDA) at 5.33am on Friday shows the area covered by the oil slick off the coast of Rayong is continuing to shrink.
The agency said on its website that the area earlier covered by oil film has reduced significantly since Thursday's satellite photograph, when it reported the area affected by the slick had already shrunk from 9 to 5 square kilometres.
An unknown amount of crude oil was spilt into the sea from an offshore pipeline serving a refinery operated by PTT Global Chemical Plc (PTTGC) in Map Ta Phut industrial estate in Rayong province early on July 27.
