The Commerce Ministry is to seek cooperation from 13 chainstore operators to offer 10-70% discounts on more than 10,000 items from Aug 16-24, to stimulate domestic consumption.
However, retailers question whether the campaign will spur the economy as much as expected by the government. They argue people do not have the money to spend, so have suggested the government instead find ways to help boost people’s income.
Deputy Commerce Minister Yanyong Phuangrach said the sales programme would offer consumers discounted products at stores across the country.
