More than 40% of people surveyed by Nida Poll have "no confidence" that a planned political reform panel will help bring about national reconciliation, and nearly half see little hope for an amnesty bill.
The pollsters at the National Institute of Development Administration (Nida) drew the conclusions from interviews with 1,254 people of all education levels and occupations on Aug 15 and 16.
Asked about their confidence in the effort to pass a political amnesty bill in parliament to create reconciliation, 47.1% of the respondents said they had no confidence, 29% had little confidence, 12.1% had some confidence, 8.2% had full confidence and the rest were unsure.
