Compensation helps free boy's killers

The uncle of Nong Fluke, a nine-year-old boy killed during a 2003 drug sting operation, has withdrawn an appeal against the sentence given to three police officers after the defendants paid 1 million baht in compensation in an out-of-court settlement.
Pol Snr Sgt-Maj Pipat Saen-in, 44, Pol Sgt Maj Panumas Chanakham, 39, and Pol Sgt Anusorn Thaensuwan, 39, were charged with manslaughter in the shooting death of Chakraphan Srisa-ard, known as Nong Fluke.
During a drug operation on Feb 23, 2003, around 7.30pm, the then-police officers of Bang Chan police station opened fire on a car driven by Nong Fluke's mother, Pornthipa Koedrungruang.
