Army ordered to aid flood-hit people

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has ordered disaster relief units under all of the armed forces to coordinate with provincial disaster prevention and mitigation offices to provide assistance to flood-hit people in 15 provinces.
Many areas in Nakhon Ratchasima, Surin, Si Sa Ket, Ubon Ratchathani, Kanchanaburi, Nakhon Nayok, Ayutthaya, Ang Thong, Sing Buri, Lop Buri, Nakhon Sawan, Phitsanulok, Phichit, Kamphaeng Phet and Prachin Buri provinces have been hit with landslides and flooding since Sept 18.
Col Thanathip Sawangsaeng, the defence spokesman, said disaster relief units under the Defence Ministry have despatched 1,500 soldiers, 35 trucks, five excavators and 29 flat-bottom boats to flood-hit areas.
