Sergeant found shot in parked car

An senior army sergeant has been found dead with a bullet through his head in a car on a road in tambon Latya of Kanchanaburi’s Muang district, police said on Tuesday.
Pol Lt Kasan Para, an officer at Latya police station, said Snr Sgt Major Sonthi Nam-orn, 39, a member of the the army's 19th Infantry Regiment, was found dead inside his pickup truck. The man died from a shot to the head.
A pistol was found next to his body aalong with one spent bullet shell, he said. Both items were seized as evidence.
Pol Col Watana Prasomsap, superintendent of Latya police station, said one of the victim’s army friends, whose name was not given, told police that he and several other soldiers, including Sonthi, had gone out drinking prior to the incident.
The person said he drove Sonthi's car home for him because the man was drunk. Midway to their destination he told him to park, saying he would continue the rest of the way on his own.
Moments after he walked away from the car, the witness said, he heard a gunshot. He went back to investigate and found Sonthi dead in the front passenger's seat.
Pol Col Watana said police will investigation further before deciding it was suicide.
A post mortem examination is underway, he added.
