Death toll from floods rises to 73

A total of 73 people were confirmed dead in the floods that have hit 359 districts in 46 provinces since Sept 17, Chatchai Promlert, director general of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department, said on Saturday.
The department on Thursday, Oct 17, reported the death toll at 68.
The floodwater had receded in 24 provinces, Mr Chatchai said.
As of Saturday, flooding continues in 4,227 villages in 92 districts of 22 provinces, effecting 704,952 people of 236,757 households, he said.
In Saraburi, Ubon Ratchathani and Si Sa Ket, 7,466 people of 3,616 households were moved to higher ground for their safety, he added.
