Bangkok traffic police will extend their towing of illegally parked vehicles to 60 roads at 6am on Friday to relieve traffic congestion in the capital.
Pol Maj Gen Adul Narongsak, the Metropolitan Police Bureau's deputy commissioner supervising traffic, said on Monday the towing policy was initially implemented on 10 heavily congested roads on Oct 21, and would expand to 50 other main roads next month.
"Tough action will start at 6am on Friday. Violators must pay a fine of 500 baht and a towing fee of at least 500 baht, depending on the type of vehicle," the deputy commissioner said.
He said deputy superintendents for traffic, inspectors and deputy inspectors for traffic will supervise the towing to prevent subordinates taking bribes from parking violators.
Bangkok police will begin evaluating the impacts of the tougher measures on traffic conditions from Friday night.
