The Design For Flood Exhibition will be on from Thursday until Jan 27 at the TCDC, 6th floor of Emporium, Sukhumvit Road. It is open Tues-Sun from 10.30am-9pm. Call 02-664-8448 ext 213 or visit www.tcdc.or.th.

Thailand Creative & Design Centre (TCDC) presents a showcase of the 10 winning prototypes from the "Design For Flood" contest. Using "design thinking" as the framework, the project team conducted a field survey to determine the problems and needs of the people affected by last year's flood within the Bangkok metropolitan area and vicinity.

The creative prototypes demonstrate how design thought processes can help answer the needs of flood victims, and also provide an opportunity for further development to interested manufacturers and entrepreneurs.

The 10 items are:

A water measurement network and data processing system that provides information on accurate water levels.

A foldable floating toilet with separate chambers for urine and faeces and uses a waterless treatment system.

A community water supply to change floodwater into safe drinking water using a human-powered strainer system.

Emergency flood signage that gives information on local conditions to warn of potential dangers, traffic rules, and details about flood victims in need of help.

A FurFightFlood table and chair set that can be disassembled into parts like Lego blocks.

A Wee Boat that can be folded into the size of a bag and comes with paddles that can also check for electric currents in water.

SurviVeg, a vegetable garden kit that can produce enough vegetables for two people during a two-month period.

A buoy that can be used on flooded roads to measure the water level up to 2m deep.

A disease diagnosis kit that helps you diagnose yourself with flood-related diseases such as influenza, dengue fever, pneumonia, diarrhoea and leptospirosis.

A water garbage cleaner that can sweep and collect rubbish which is oversized or has enormous volume.
