Shoppers are sometimes more attracted by exteriors, the look of a packet or container, than by what the wrapping contains. Which is why packaging design now plays such an important role in the marketing of many consumer products.
ProPak Asia, billed as Asia's largest food, drink and pharmaceutical processing, filling and packaging technology event, was first launched in Thailand in 1989. At this year's instalment, which opens in Bangkok next week, space will be devoted to a showcase of the designs that won prizes at the ThaiStar Packaging Awards 2012. The theme for that competition was "Green Packaging" and the award-winning items are all shining examples of how the 3Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle) can be implemented in packaging to substantially reduce the creation of waste.
Organised by the Department of Industrial Promotion and the Thai Packaging Association, ProPak Asia 2013 will open at Bitec, Bang Na-Trat Road (halls 101-106) on Wednesday and continue until June 15. Opening hours are 10am to 6pm.
This year's event is expected to be the biggest so far with 1,800 exhibitors from more than 40 countries set to represent more than 3,500 products and innovations.
Admission is free, but registration is required.
