The Australian Thai Chamber of Commerce (AustCham) and the Australian embassy in Bangkok will next week present a business conference open to both Australian alumni and interested participants. Entitled “Enabling Prosperity: Moving Beyond The Middle-Income Trap”, the conference will take place in the Ballroom of Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel, Ratchadamri Road, next Wednesday from 10am to 5pm. It will bring together leaders from government, business, academia and multilateral institutions to discuss the concept of the middle-income trap and its implications forthe Thai economy. Among the distinguished speakers who will explore public and private sector solutions to move beyond the trap are HE Mr James Wise, Australian ambassador to Thailand, Dr Narongchai Akrasanee, former minister of commerce of Thailand, Dr Kirida Bhaopichitr, senior economist from the World Bank, and Veronique Salze-Lozach, chief economist and director of Economic Development at the Asia Foundation. The conference will be followed by the “Australian Alumni Gala Dinner” commencing at 5.30pm. -  Tickets cost 2,250 baht for the conference, 1,300 baht for the gala dinner and 3,500 baht for both events (3,000 baht for members). -  Visit or call 02-210-0216.
