Ministry opposed to Thai Tiger Airways

The Transport Ministry stands firm in its opposition to Thai Airways International’s (THAI) plan to set up Thai Tiger Airways, Transport Minister Sohpon Zarum said on Wednesday morning.

“The ministry disagrees with the joint venture plan [with Tiger Air] even if the prime minister and Mr Korn support it,” Mr Sohpon said.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij and Mr Sohpon are scheduled to visit THAI headquarters to give a policy briefing to the board of directors and top management tomorrow.

Sohpon does not give a reason for his opposition. Is it because Tiger is not a Thai company? Has he not noticed that international airlines all over gthe world, including the biggest and the most efficient, are forming international joint ventures simply in order to nstay in business?

Incidentally, is there any concept of collective cabinet responsibility in Thailand? Surely his oppopsition is something to take up privately with cabinet colleagues and then make a collective cabinet decision. What way to run a country!

This case, I support you Mr. Zarum!!! I would be more happy to see NOK Air as our low cost carrier flies around with Thai crews than see ThaiTiger with Foreign crew flies on our routes using our rights . If NOK Air management are not good enough to run it as the THAI always think and praise, then change the Management. It would be better than do partnership with Tiger or any foreign Airlines.
