Hat Yai Airport has seen a rebound in traffic with passenger throughput and aircraft movements rising by nearly 40% in the 10 months to July, according to Airports of Thailand Plc (AoT).
The increase was largely attributed mainly to the increased frequencies introduced by Nok Air, for domestic routes, and Tiger Airways for international services. As well travellers are becoming more confident about visiting southern Thailand, which has faced problems from insurgency for years.
A total of 1.6 million passengers passed through the airport in the period from Oct 1 to July 31, up by 37.9% year-on-year, while take-offs and landings rose 39.1% to 11,390, said Niran Teeranartsin, the acting president of AoT.
