Airports of Thailand Plc (AoT) is lobbying the Transport Ministry for the change in a standing policy guideline governing the use of Don Mueang airport so that more airlines can operate through it.
The state-controlled airport operator is eager to see the ministry alter the state directive that limits the use of Bangkok's old airport to serve only carriers with point-to-point domestic services, AoT insiders said.
The directive was enforced by the coup-installed Gen Surayud Chulanont government in 2007 as part of its decision to reopen Don Mueang which was closed when Suvarnabhumi, then the new international airport, started operation in September 2006.
