Thai arrivals jet to 71m this year

Passengers passing through Thailand's six major airports including the Suvarnabhumi hub are expected to reach a record high of 70.9 million in the year to Sept 30, a 7% year-on-year increase.

Airports of Thailand Plc (AoT) released the estimate yesterday based on the trends over the first eight months of fiscal 2012 beginning last Oct 1, which saw combined passenger throughput touch 47.7 million with take-offs and landings totalling 319,765.

Combined aircraft movements through these six AoT airports are projected to grow by 7.9% to 476,159 this fiscal year.

If the experience of flying through Suvarnabhumi continues to decline in quality (because of exceeding the designed capacity) then we risk a sharp decline in reputation and an even sharper decline in tourist numbers to follow.
