Don Mueang readiness decried

Korean carrier cites facility shortcomings

Contrary to what Thai authorities claim, Don Mueang airport appears not yet ready to resume international flights, as the South Korean budget carrier T'way Airlines says the problems it encountered has prompted it to halt service there.

Passengers wait in Don Mueang’s Terminal 2 yesterday. South Korea’s T’way Airlines has halted operations out of Bangkok’s original airport.

T'way, which said it was bombarded by "uncountable" complaints from Thai and foreign passengers alike, blasted Airports of Thailand Plc (AoT) and Thai officials related to airport operations for failing to provide sufficient service and facilities to support international flights through Bangkok's old airport.

Failure in managing the two airports in BKK justify purging both the current board and all executives. All the hiccups have impacts not just only aviation industry but tourism and hotel. Millions of people are affected plus irreparable country credibility if we still have any left.

    Dis 2
Don Muang Capacity – 25,000,000 passengers per year – 60 flights per hour
Suvarnbhumi Capacity – 45,000,000 passengers per year – 76 flights per hour
Suvarnabhumi is a fare bit over design capacity now. Last fical year the airport handled over 47,000,000 passengers. This is expected to increase year on year.
So if Don Muang were sufficient as you say, I suspect there would need to be considerable expansion of the airport. Where might you suggest this could happen.

Please! ggh Don muang was operating just fine below TS port was build...Swampy is dirty, have the windows ever been cleaned. When I flew out on Jetstar there was pently of places to sit, It is underused for most of the day. Immigration is slow, with too much logging of passprts and the need for photos, what the point of passports' when they just want to double the paperwork? and secuity want you to remove everything! And being forced the long walk shopping centre! returning takes forever with immigation going through the same procedure, and the bags taking nearly as long as the flights to turnup...plus the fact you mix with outgoing passengers on yr return, now thats weird!

Even with all the shortcoming with the Suvarnabhumi airport, could we possibly imagine the problems we would have with air travel had it not been built? Thaksin seems to be blasted quite often for undertaking this project. In reality the only real misjudgment made by Thaksin is not building the airport big enough to begin with. Rather than constantly finding fault, we should be very thankful for his vision!
