AoT optimistic about Don Mueang amid scepticism

Authorities have tackled about 60 of the 98 issues barring Don Mueang from becoming a fully functional airport by Oct 1.

Despite industry scepticism because of the short execution period, the state-controlled Airports of Thailand Plc (AoT) remains optimistic the deadline, given by Transport Ministry, will be met.

"We're making fairly good progress each day to beat the Oct 1 deadline," said Paranee Vatanotai, the general manager of Don Mueang airport.

"Mrs Paranee said government agencies providing immigration, customs and quarantine formalities have ensured there will be enough manpower and facilities to serve international passengers and cargo by Oct 1"

If with long notice and many warnings, AOT can not do this at Suvarnabhumi, why should anyone believe they can do it here in a few weeks?
