Air France to splash out on major facelift

- +

PARIS : Air France plans to spend hundreds of millions of euros to upgrade its products and services to regain its market position and respond to competition from Persian Gulf and Asian carriers.

The investment, announced by the French flag carrier's chairman and chief executive Alexandre de Juniac, is part of a broader restructuring plan dubbed Transform 2015, which targets cost savings of 2 billion (79.9 billion baht) over the next three years and a 20% increase in productivity at Air France and affiliated KLM, which merged in 2004.

The upgrade homes in on refurbishing first and business classes of its entire fleet of long-haul Boeing 777s, a direct response to what is perceived as higher-quality services on Gulf and Asian airlines.
