THAI to receive first A380

Thai Airways International Pcl (THAI) will receive its first Airbus SAS A380 superjumbo this week, boosting efforts to compete with Singapore Airlines and Emirates for lucrative corporate travellers, Bloomberg reported on Thursday.

The six on-order A380s and new Boeing 777-300ERs will help the carrier raise the percentage of seats filled in premium cabins across its network to more than 70% from about 60%, acting president Chokchai Panyayong said in a Sept 25 interview in Bangkok. He did not give a timeframe for the goal.

Load factors in first and business class are “a little bit low,” he said. “With improvements in the product and services we can increase that.”

Nothing more fun than hitting the baggage carousel at the exact same time as 500 other passengers, once was enough for me. It has nothing to do with the Boeing vs Airbus nonsense, but I would expect any frequent corporate flyer to prefer the smaller 777.

Emirates A380 return fare BKK to HKG is 8100 baht. Will be interesting to see Thai's competition fare for this sector.

Has anyone asked immigration how they will cope with the huge number of extra passengers? Last week they couldnt cope with the regular passenger numbers.

Pure commercial madness to operate a long haul aircraft on short haul flights as turn around costs will be massive and wear and tear due to the many take-offs and landings on short haul operations will be excessive.
