Emirates ramps up BKK route

Emirates is strengthening its dominance of the Middle East-Thailand sector with the launch of its fifth daily non-stop flight between Bangkok and Dubai, starting on March 31.

Its decision surprised rival carriers, who are questioning how Emirates could fill additional seats on a sector where its capacity is already plentiful with the deployment of the A380 superjumbo.

The launch will intensify the tough competition on the sector, making life tough for Abu Dhabi-based Etihad, Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines and Oman Air.

D1 Barry; Perhaps the cost of the tickets and the old airplanes that Thai use, that have no AVOD, etc, is a big factor why Thai Airways can't attract International Customers. Decent food and friendly service from Cabin Staff is also something that Thai doesn't have. I used to fly Thai, but unfortunately over the last 10 years, they have let their standards drop so low it's only a shadow of it's former glory.

Emirates will operate five flights a day. Thai has one. Seems to me like yet another market opportunity lost. If Emirates can attract enough passengers for five flights a day, why can't Thai?
