The labour union of Thai Airways International (THAI) wants the airline's board to quickly approve increases in the salaries and performance bonuses of operational level staff.

Jaemsri Sukchoterat, chairwoman of the union, said it wanted the THAI board to consider salary and bonus increases this month instead of at its next meeting, scheduled for Feb 8.

She discussed the union's demands with THAI president Sorajak Kasemsuvan yesterday. The negotiations followed a strike by about 400 of THAI's ground service staff at Suvarnabhumi airport on Saturday. The work stoppage delayed dozens of flights and affected hundreds of passengers.

LET'S ALL DEMAND BONUSES! I mean... this is a joke... TG is already raising salaries by 4% and giving a 1 month bonus, a lot of people would be lucky and happy to get that. Some TG staff probably influenced everyone into his/her greed for more money. Honestly, are their performances that good that they deserve a 7.5% raise and 2 month bonuses? Whatever happened to KPI? Honestly, I think this whole thing is pathetic. These staff are greedy. TG, do not give in! Because if you do so this time, they will demand more next time. As the saying says: Give your hand and they want to take your arm!

Demanding a bonus when clearly THAI is a lumbering wounded elephant slowly dying is clearly the wrong message
Low cost airlines are eating into their domestic routes
More efficient fleets and bad press about quality of service / rude cabin crew and far cheaper prices taking the international customers
If Ms Sukchotera can make herself loved and respected by the general public by not trying to get more money for her members
But focusing on all the money wasted by management and the policy of free and discounted tickets which is clearly taking all the profit from the airline these savings made would easily pay for her bonus scheme !!!

spiceman, oldairman: There were many exchange programs for government officers of TH and SG during TS' time in government. At one time both TH & SG governments were talking about a "2-countries-1-system" model ahead of the AEC, which caused sleepless nights to many of the old elites (who have a firm grip on 80% of the key businesses in Thailand).

During the junta and AV governments, the old elites and the army simply could not resist using Singapore as a convenient punching bag (accusing SG of spying with satellites.. etc). But looks like SG now has the last laugh without lifting a single finger because AV just could not win elections.

Arch dis#13, for a moment, I thought you talking about N Korea. Having live in Singapore for more than half of my adult life, I find your description of dictatorship and autocracy rather humorous. Would Singapore be prosperous trading and getting investments all over the world if it has no democratic values? Would a small island state without any resources be successful if it is a dictatorship? Singapore has a fragile economy and the strict laws are necessary for its success and sustainability.

Good for you Jaemsri, ( Labor Union boss ), goes to show ya the ladies of Thailand
deserve the lead in gettings things done, fairly, and now,in an appropriate time frame. The nurses started the ball rolling, now you, followed by others can change management/labor relations
into a team instead of adversaries with the "muscle" all management.

RE: D4...I don't know if you are aware that TS wanted to do just that and also privatize many of the other government enterprises. His reasoning was to make them more efficient as you say, but he had also other reasons, i.e. they are all under the entrenched control of the DP, and for the most part only support the DP. As you can this union person is plainly trying to discredit the current CEO for political reasons and nothing else. Please look closely at the DP and you will as I did long ago see that what you are presented with as truth is not what you get.

D5 and D7 you are absolutely right. Singapore is a dictatorship and autocracy under the guise of democracy with the media, labor unions, universities, armed forces, neighborhood associations etc etc tightly controlled by the PAP government. Any criticism of government policy is regarded as "anti-national.And yes, this is Thaksins dream of Thailand-Shin Inc.

jacksprat #7 - Spore is where I currently based. It is a small island State. A small civil unrest can quickly spread like wild fire and destroy it. Everyone has the right for responsible freedom of speech and expression. Everyone also has the right to rebut and take whatever legal measure to protect themselves. It has learned its lesson from the 60s and 70s when strikes, suspicion and hatred were common. Having said so, Thailand has the potential to be the Centre of ASEAN.
