The surge in international tourist arrivals, especially from China and Russia, is causing a shortage of high-quality coaches, mostly during the high season and long weekends, according to the Tourism Transportation Association (TTA).
Jiradej Huayhongthong, TTA deputy chairman, said there an estimated 5,000 tour buses nationwide but only 2,000 are qualified to serve both domestic and international tourists.
The shortage started in the last quarter of 2012. The number of visitors from China and Russia _ two key tourist markets _ has grown significantly.
