Thirty-two more auto-gates, or automatic passport screening machines, will be installed at Suvarnabhumui airport, increasing the total to 48, and eight more installed at each of two other major airports.
The 16 auto-gates already in operation, which cost 76 million baht, were split equally between the departure and arrival halls at Suvarnabhumi, Immigration Bureau commissioner Pol Lt Gen Pharnu Kerdlarpphon said on Tuesday.
The additional machines would bring the total in each hall to 24 and speed up the immigration process for all Thai passport holders. The expanded service was expected to be operational in late January 2014.
