A passion for Purity

Thailand's wealthiest man spends hundreds of millions of baht to preserve native animal species.

The latest "Thailand's 40 Richest" list from Forbes Asia magazine puts Dhanin Chearavanont, chairman and CEO of the Charoen Pokphand Group, firmly at the top of the heap.

Mr Dhanin bought his first water buffalo, Boon Rawd, from a slaughterhouse and since then has been striving to save and improve the breed.

His giant business empire covers a wide range of industries _ agribusiness, food, retailing, property and telecoms _ all of which garnered him a net worth of 218 billion baht this year, up from 126 billion last year.

Bill Gate and Warren Buffet must be happy to learn about Khun Dhanin's unusual kindness in chicken and buffalo.

Now, only if Mr. Dhanin agrees to give away 1/2 of his money to the charity after death.

Go Go Go........make a good example of Thaksin

Well, Fighting Cocks and Water Buffalo....hmmm. I suppose the man can spend his money as he wishes and thats fair enough. But when the majority of Thailand is once again on its kness and screaming for one of the Elites to lead by example, we dont see it.

We see, no support against price fixing for the farmers, or of projects to apply natural fertilizers, or assisting in upgrading Thailands ancient farming techniques and equipment, or funding irrigation plans or green energy, or in educating the illiterate of the countryside who many in big business treat as surfs, etc etc.........still, we have the buffallo i suppose.
