Rising oil prices likely to lift demand

Higher oil prices are lowering the gap in prices of bioplastics and conventional plastics, increasing long-term demand, says Somsak Borrisuttanakul, president of the Thai Bioplastics Industry Association (TBIA).
The UN Food and Agriculture Organisation said last week that food prices were at their highest since 1990, adding pressure to bioplastics prices.
Thailand is the world's top exporter of cassava, but still imports polylactic acid (PLA), a material for producing bioplastics, made mostly from corn.
