The massive earthquake and deadly tsunami in Japan will affect Thailand’s exports and tourism in short term, Thanawat Ponwichai, director of the Economic and Business Forecasting Centre at the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, said on Saturday.
However, he expected the country exports and tourism businesses would return to normal in the fourth quarter of the year.
Mr Thanawat said the earthquake would hurt the economy of Japan by no more than 0.5 per cent of its gross domestic product, or about 25 billion US dollar.
