Bangchak Petroleum Plc will phase out regular petrol production by the end of next year to focus on being an ethanol and gasohol production leader in Southeast Asia.
President Anusorn Sangnimnuan said the majority state-owned refiner would also propose that the new government phase out petrol production nationwide and increase ethanol consumption.
Regular petrol now accounts for 40% of vehicle fuel consumption or 8 million litres a day, with ethanol-based fuels such as gasohol, E20 and E85 the remaining 60% or 12 million litres.
