Ratch, ITD do Dawei deal

Coal plants to fuel infrastructure projects

SET-listed Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding (Ratch) has formed a partnership with Italian-Thai Development (ITD) for coal-fired power plants producing almost 4,000-megawatts in Dawei, Burma.

A memorandum of understanding signed yesterday gives Ratch 30% ownership of a new company to be formed next year and ITD 70%.

In the first three years, three small-power-producer projects will be developed with a capacity of 130 MW each.

There are very good systems available to capture the carbon emissions from "conventional" power plants, either Gas, Oil or Coal. Hopefully they will use that.

D4, Ianprince, Nuclear clean and environmental friendly? Ask that to the people in Tsjernobyl and Fukajima. No CO2 emissions, correct, but more than a lifetime of deadly radioactive waste to deal with.

It will take some time, but the energy source of the future is in the making, check out www.iter.org

I would have thought that depending on off-shore power supplies lessens Thailand's power security not increases it!

There appears to be an ever increasing trend of plugging shortfalls in Thailand's infrastructure from off-shore. Assuming it is a stop-gap measure, a longer term strategy is required in such an unstable region.

Just when everyone else is moving away from coal.I see Vietnam is going ahead with nuclear plants with the Japanese.

    Why coal?
Nuclear is clearer, environmental friendly, and zero CO2 emission.

so rex ,you would rather have nuclear power built by a company from a country that hasn't yet figured out that water runs downhill.

what i really find amazing is thai companies willing to invest there....maybe they should study what happened to companies who trusted chavez

Coal fired power? What arrangements have been looked at to deal with the carbon emissions produced by these structures? None I suspect. Damned disgraceful.
