Air fares still unchanged after EU imposes carbon charge
Several major airlines serving Thailand-Europe flights are not in a rush to pass on extra charges to passengers to offset rising costs from a European Union carbon emissions scheme that kicked in on Jan 1.
Bangkok-based executives of Air France, KLM, Lufthansa, Air Berlin and Etihad, as well as Thai Airways International (THAI), said there have not been any instruction from their head offices so far to raise fares.
The executives said it was too early to discuss the issue due to the New Year holiday break and that the cost impact may have to be assessed.
