The 50-billion-baht Natural Catastrophe Insurance Fund is expected to be implemented later this month, offering protection for households and businesses of all sizes against natural disasters nationwide at a combined insured sum of 1 trillion baht.
The fund committee yesterday held its first meeting chaired by Phayungsak Chartsuthipol, chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries, who was appointed this week by the cabinet.
The committee will ask for cooperation from 67 general insurance companies to offer coverage for floods and other disasters. A memorandum of understanding is expected to be signed later this month.
