Monthly rise in diesel price seen

Gradual return of tax intended to ease shock

The price of diesel will be raised gradually by five baht through September as the Excise Department prepares to resume excise tax collection to meet the normal rate within this fiscal year, said director-general Benja Louichareon.

The move is aiming at ensuring that excise tax revenue will meet a target of 368 billion baht, revised down from 405 billion baht.

Mrs Benja said crude prices would decline in the coming summer, a low season for crude, hence it should be the right time to resume the tax rate.

A proper working train system could transport containers to the port so the highways wouldnt be bumper to bumper with smoke belching trucks traveling 20 km/hr.It would also be one less things for passenger vans to crash into the back of .

Renaissance D1 - "A 5 Baht increase in diesel will not make the people wealthy."
On the contrary, it will. That 5 baht was coming from the taxpayers pocket to subsidize fuel users. People who didn't own a car were paying the gas costs of people who do. And by underpricing fuel it was causing PTT to go bankrupt, resulting in large government debt.

Good to see that finally it looks like diesel and gas users will pay their share....since the levies were removed everyone else have had to pay to make up for the loss of revenue from diesel (and gas) .....tired of paying for other people.

The people have got the government they wanted. When will people stop believing the election promises of politicians, especially Mr. T's promises? When did he ever keep a promise? I suppose they still believe that Mr. T will make them all wealthy within (4?) years. A 5 Baht increase in diesel will not make the people wealthy.
