Chiang Mai has high hopes for UN forum

The Tourism and Sports Ministry hopes the UN World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) meeting in Chiang Mai from May 3-5 will prompt visitor arrivals in the northern province.

The ministry and related agencies such as the Tourism Authority of Thailand are preparing to host the 24th Joint Meeting of the UNWTO Commission for East Asia and the Pacific and the UNWTO Commission for South Asia.

Thanitta Savetsila Maneechote, the ministry's deputy permanent secretary, estimates the forum will number 150-200 including five prime ministers and representatives from international tourism organisations.
