Cost structure to be probed to curb prices

The Internal Trade Department has been instructed to strike a balance in overseeing the demands of consumers and manufacturers by focusing on the cost structure throughout the production process, says Commerce Minister Boonsong Teriyapirom.
He urged the department to use the information on the regularly updated cost structure to prevent manufacturers from taking advantage of consumers.
After receiving many complaints about high goods prices through its 1569 hotline, Vatchari Vimooktayon, the department's director-general, said the initial survey of food prices showed unreasonably high prices that were out of line with the government's policy on supervising the cost of living.
