COMPETITIVE EATING

When the whistle blew, the competition started: Eight male and eight female eaters began eating shrimp wontons (Chinese dumplings), as many as they could in eight minutes.

From left: Chotiwit Niwatdechbordin, the first male runner-up, Ng Chin Sheng, the male winner, Suphat Sritanatorn, senior vice-president for marketing at CPF, Kosit Lohawatanakul, vicepresident for marketing, Helen Tan, the female winner, Thidathip Hadthip, the first female runner-up.

Ng Chin Sheng won the male race by eating 161 wontons and Helen Tan was the female winner with 125. Both are from Singapore and won US$3,000 each.
