As AEC nears, Thai shoe factories prepare to beat a path to lower-cost countries

The advent of the Asean Economic Community (AEC) in 2015 will prompt several labour-intensive industries to relocate to neighbouring countries such as Myanmar, Vietnam and China to take advantage of cheaper costs.
Chanin: Labour shortage a problem
Among them is the shoe industry, which will see more than 100 businesses relocate in the next decade, said Chanin Jitkomut, president of the 200-member Thai Footwear Association (TFA).
